What does Water Wise and Trees have in common? —stormwater management 💧While we are not a tree planting organization, trees are the most common type of green infrastructure in our city. Mature trees can drink up to 1,000 gallons of water per day❗️The Bunny Friend Neighborhood Association has been working with its residents to increase the tree count along N Galvez. Today we planted 25 trees in the public right of way with support from @parksandparkways 🙌🌳 thank you to @handsonnola and the volunteers from Milwaukee for helping us. And to our Water Wise Neighborhood Champion, Ruby Augustine, for storing the trees and supplies.
Join us for a Water Wise Green Infrastructure 101 Workshop this Spring! Learn how to improve drainage on your property, get rid of pesky standing water, and improve our environment. Topics include: learning about our current drainage system, the benefits of green infrastructure, and the types and components of green infrastructure.
Another green infrastructure in the books with @lagreencorps @l9wha and @buildwithgravel ✅✅✅ The project included a Water Wise workshop where the students at LA Green Corps learned about green infrastructure. After the workshop, the students took their learnings and visited Ms Cynthia’s house in the Lower 9th Ward and brainstormed a series of green infrastructure solutions to address flooding and drainage on her property. Over the last two days the students implemented their design by excavating and installing a French drain and rain garden that will be able to manage and store over 600 gallons of stormwater ⛈️ thank you to @gnoiris for the beautiful irises in the rain garden, including the “lower 9” Iris! 💛 #greytogreen #waterwisenola #l9 #lower9thward
Thank you to @scrippsnews for covering our work to advance green infrastructure in New Orleans. Hear from the Bunny Friend Neighborhood Association residents and Executive Director Katherine Prevost discuss how green infrastructure can be used to combat flooding and urban heat island. Link to article and full video in our bio 🌳 💚 #followyournola #greytogreen #upper9 @prevostkatherine
We’re kicking off the next green infrastructure project with @l9wha @buildwithgravel and @lagreencorps Today we worked with the trainees of @lagreencorps Construction and Green Infrastructure Training Program to assess Ms. Cynthia’s project in the Lower 9th Ward. They learned about her flooding concerns and came up with some green infrastructure solutions for her property. Stay tuned for the implementation of these solutions on March 15 and 16 👀
We kicked off 2023 by visioning some green infrastructure solutions 🌱 💧 with the Hollygrove Dixon Neighborhood Association. The experts (residents of Hollygrove Dixon) shared their ideas on how to increase permeability in their neighborhood and reduce stormwater runoff to help prevent flooding. The next step is the compile these solutions into a “Look Book” so that residents can advocate and capture funding for these green infrastructure projects. #communityled #greytogreen #followyournola #hollygrove
